Technology Development Fund: DRDO Hands Over Seven Key Technologies to Armed Forces

Technology Development Fund

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over seven indigenously developed technologies created under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme to the Indian Armed Forces, reinforcing India’s push towards self-reliance in critical defence technologies.

The technologies developed under the Technology Development Fund include:

  • Indigenous High-Voltage Power Supply for Airborne Self-Protection Jammers
  • Tide-efficient gangway for naval jetties
  • Advanced Very Low Frequency–High Frequency (VLF–HF) switching matrix systems
  • VLF loop aerials for underwater platforms
  • Indigenous waterjet propulsion system for fast interceptor craft
  • Novel process for the recovery of lithium precursors from used lithium-ion batteries
  • Long-life seawater battery system for sustained underwater sensing and surveillance applications.

Technology Development Fund Strengthens Indigenous Defence Capabilities

All seven technologies under the Technology Development Fund have been designed, developed, and extensively tested by Indian industry, working in close collaboration with DRDO domain experts and the three Services.

The initiative underscores the TDF scheme’s emphasis on import substitution, development of critical technologies, and enhanced industry participation in defence R&D.

The formal handover took place during a meeting of the Empowered Committee of DRDO held at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi, on December 02, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat, and was attended by senior officials from the Armed Forces, the Department of Defence Production, and DRDO.

Technology Development Fund Clears 12 New Strategic Projects

During the meeting, the Empowered Committee reviewed multiple project proposals and approved 12 new projects under the Technology Development Fund, spanning strategic systems, aerospace platforms, naval technologies, and electronic warfare solutions.

These approvals reflect a sustained focus on building domestic technological capacity and reducing dependency on foreign-origin systems in emerging and mission-critical areas.

The Committee also deliberated on approval mechanisms for various project categories under the Technology Development Fund and stressed the need to expedite end-to-end project processing to better align with the evolving operational and technological requirements of the Services.
